Each Bloke rod incorporates the finest cork currently available anywhere in the world. Basically cork shrives (1" thick sections) are supplied in three basic grades and the better rods available generally use "Flor" grade which is reasonably acceptable . However you will still see the filler that has been used to fill the pits in the cork. For two years we have searched for a better grade and have finally found superb quality cork from Portugal which is virtually flawless. In the rod building process each 1" shrive is bored to fit the exact position on the rod blank and once the required number of shrives have been determined these are then clamped and bonded onto the rod tube. This process is incredibly labour intensive but ensures a perfect fit and reduces the amount of adhesive required which in turn keeps the weight of the rod down.
